I’m obsessed with rapper Kool Keith, and as I was listening non-stop to his song ‘No Awareness’ (Doctor Octagon), I decided to transcribe his second verse, and use the rhythm as the basis of the composition. A sort of sonic unmooring happens when you hear the same thing over and over, and even speech becomes a melody if you listen to it many times out of context.
